The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) FUTURE conference (formerly National Conference) brings together medical students and residents from across the nation with family medicine leaders, residency programs and potential employers for three days of family medicine exploration + celebration.

Meet with hundreds of residency programs, take in inspiring talks and educational experiences, advocate via the student and resident congresses and more.

The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP) Foundation offers reimbursement of up to $800 for registration, travel and hotel accommodations to attend FUTURE. Applications will open by March 2025.

Who is eligible for reimbursement?
MAFP student members currently enrolled at:
  • Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine (Rochester)
  • University of Minnesota Medical School (Twin Cities and Duluth campuses)
You must be a medical student member of the MAFP at the time of the conference. Not a student member yet? No cost to join! Sign up to be an MAFP student member through the AAFP.
How does the reimbursement work?
  1. Students must apply for reimbursement in advance.
  2. Applicants will be notified by email if their application was approved and receive additional information about the reimbursement process.
  3. Reimbursements will be made after the conference to approved applicants who meet the reimbursement requirements.

Support Minnesota medical students in attending the largest national gathering of medical students and residents interested in family medicine—and engage with those interested in training/practicing in Minnesota during the Minnesota Reception.

The University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is providing a charter bus for students and residents to travel from Minnesota to FUTURE (at no cost to students and residents). The bus will leave on Wednesday, July 30, and return on Saturday, August 2. If you choose to take the charter bus, you can focus your reimbursed funds on hotel and registration expenses and have more time to make connections.

We will be holding an orientation meeting (online) on July xx, 2025, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm for all Minnesota medical students attending FUTURE. You’ll receive a meeting link and other important details by email the week before the orientation meeting.
