8:45 am | Why Weight? Addressing Weight Bias to Advance Health Equity
A growing body of evidence indicates that weight stigma can create barriers to equitable health care access. Inadequate equipment and implicit bias among health care providers can compromise the quality of health care received
by higher weight patients or lead them to delay or avoid seeking services. Family physicians can play a critical role in addressing weight bias in health care due to the longitudinal relationships of trust built with patients.
In this session, we will discuss how to create a weight-inclusive environment that empowers patients of all sizes to pursue health and wellbeing.
