Native American communities face a number of health disparities, including lack of access to healthcare. Providers are often many miles away, and transportation on reservations may be limited. As a result, these communities are likely to be disproportionately affected by COVID-19.
Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians member Mary J. Owen, MD, who is director of the Center of American Indian and Minority Health and an assistant professor in the Department of Family Medicine and BioBehavioral Health on the University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth campus, is seeking physicians who are not currently being utilized and may be interested in providing care at Tribal sites.
Dr. Owen will connect interested physicians with two Native-owned locum companies that will NOT be billing for services to Tribal sites during the pandemic. These companies will be in a good position to get physicians to the places with the highest needs.
If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, email Dr. Owen, directly, at mjowen@d.umn.edu.
