Welcome to the 2019 AAFP National Conference of Family Medicine Residents & Medical Students!

The MAFP, in partnership with the Departments of Family Medicine and Community Health at Mayo and the University of Minnesota, will cover your registration, hotel and charter bus transportation for the conference. You will receive an email after we register you with the AAFP and make your hotel reservations.

Minnesota Student Caucus Friday, July 26, 10:00 am

We want all students to take part. This is a chance to discuss the issues being voted on at the Student Congress. Please wear your Minnesota t-shirt so we can show the congress that we have arrived.

Leadership Positions There are positions which are elected at the conference and commission positions which you can apply for after. Check out the opportunities at aafp.org/getinvolved. If you are interested in a leadership position, email lisa@mafp.org as soon as possible to begin the application process.
Event App Download the AAFP Events app and click on 2019 AAFP National Conference under “upcoming events” to get started.
Cash / Spending Money Students are responsible for their meals, Ubers, entertainment, etc. Cosentino’s Market is two blocks from the hotel and has options for great nosh. There are tons of restaurants in the Power and Light District to choose from, as well.
Attire Business casual attire is appropriate for the conference sessions and exhibit hall time. It is suggested that you bring at least one professional outfit. You will get a Minnesota t-shirt to wear on Friday at the Student Congress and the Minnesota Reception. Heck, you might as well wear it all day.
T-Shirt If you are traveling independently to the conference, pick up your Land of 3,000 Family Docs t-shirt at the front desk of the hotel. Everyone else will receive their t-shirts on the bus. All Minnesota medical students should wear their t-shirts on Friday, July 26.

Charter Bus – Where and When to Get on Board

The Minnesota Coaches bus travels to Missouri on Wednesday, July 24, and returns on Saturday, July 27. Bring your favorite DVDs to share. (Please avoid Tomb Raider for everyone’s safety. One student reported that the vampire blood was “burned into his eyeballs.”)

Traveling to Kansas City – Wednesday, July 24

Duluth Bus departs at 7:00 am (board by 6:45 am) from Lot W at the corner of Junction Avenue & College Street. Those boarding in Duluth must send the following information to Linda Liskiewicz (lliskiew@d.umn.edu, 218-726-7916) by May 25: Name, cell phone and make, model, year, color and license plate # of your vehicle.
Minneapolis Bus departs at 9:45 am (board by 9:30 am) from west side of the Commons Hotel on the U of M campus, 615 Washington Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414. Be dropped off or, if overnight parking is needed, call 612-626-PARK.
Albert Lea Bus departs at 11:45 am (board by 11:30 am) from Trails Travel Center, 820 Happy Trails Lane, Albert Lea, MN 56007. If leaving your car, check in at the center’s fuel desk with your license number.

Leaving Kansas City – Saturday, July 27
Bus departs for Minnesota at 2:00 pm (boarding begins at 1:45 pm) from the Crowne Plaza, 1301 Wyandotte Street, Kansas City, MO 64105. We will arrive in Minneapolis at approximately 9:00 pm and in Duluth between 11:30 and midnight.
