Improve HPV Vaccination Rates

The MAFP is partnering with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to help you improve your HPV vaccination rates and prevent cancer in Minnesota.

Our Goal

Help 100 practices in Minnesota raise their HPV vaccination rates by April 2019.

We’re Missing Opportunities to Prevent Cancer

Minnesota vaccination coverage for 13-17 year olds:

  • 52% had one or more doses of HPV vaccine
  • 78% had a Tdap vaccine
  • 74% had one or more doses of meningococcal (MenACWY) vaccine

- data from Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC), April 2017

HPV-associated Cancers are a Big Deal

  • 1 in 4 people are currently infected with human papillomavirus (HPV) in the U.S. That's nearly 80 million people.
  • About 30,000 men and women are diagnosed with a cancer caused by HPV each year in the U.S. About 28,000 of those cases could be prevented with HPV vaccination.

How to Raise Your Vaccination Rates

Sign up below to receive a customized plan for your clinic/practice to improve your HPV vaccination rates and prevent HPV-related cancer deaths. The plan will help your clinic address multiple quality metrics and you will earn CME credit for participating.

MDH’s Assessment, Feedback, Incentives, eXchange (AFIX) program offers continuous quality improvement support to clinics who participate in the Minnesota Vaccines for Children (MnVFC) program. AFIX site visitors empower clinic staff to identify immunization practice areas of improvement using data from the state’s immunization information system called the Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC).

Over the next two years, 100 clinics with an adolescent patient population will receive an enhanced AFIX visit. This is in addition to annually scheduled AFIX visits where adolescent immunization assessment using MIIC data is already incorporated into a visit if the clinic has an adolescent patient population.
