Clinical Pharmacy Pain Specialist, Vanguard Pain Management Consulting

Atkinson is a clinical pharmacy pain specialist and federal employee in a regional referral pain clinic near Nashville, TN. He specializes in complex and high-risk pain medication management through direct patient care and electronic consult services. He is also a residency director for a postgraduate year two pain and palliative care pharmacy residency program and strong advocate for the expansion of clinical pharmacists with expertise in collaborative drug therapy management specific to pain management. Atkinson owns Vanguard Pain Management Consulting, where he advises clients in managed care and the pharmaceutical industry. He also serves as a clinical product advisor for Axial Healthcare, where he develops evidence-based methods for monitoring opioid use for managed care. His research interests include opioid equivalencies, serum level monitoring and pain management in specialty disease states and the elderly.

Chmielewski is a full-spectrum rural family medicine physician practicing at CentraCare - Melrose. She is an active member of the MAFP and new member of the MAFP Foundation Board of Directors. She is a preceptor for the Univeristy of Minnesota Medical School Rural Medical Scholars Program and nurse practitioner students. Her interests include obstetrical care, women’s health, global health, procedures and development of community partnerships to enhance care of patients in rural communities.

Dittberner is a family physician in Alexandria, MN, and the chief medical officer for Alomere Health System. She has worked in Alexandria her entire career, first as a medical student in the University of Minnesota Rural Physicians Associate Program. Her undergraduate years were spent at Gustavus Adolphus College. Subsequently, she attended medical school and residency at the University of Minnesota. She recently received her MBA from the University of Texas. Being a family doctor is her calling, but she has also grown passionate about the importance of physician leadership in healthcare. She loves creating cultures devoted to both teamwork and quality. She is committed to “explaining the why” as she guides her system toward the rapid changes in healthcare delivery.

Neurologist and Professor, Florida Alantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine

Galvin is a professor of integrated medical science and board-certified neurologist. He is the founding director of the Comprehensive Center for Brain Health at Florida Atlantic University. Galvin has authored more than 250 scientific publications, 25 book chapters and three textbooks on healthy brain aging, cognitive health, memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body dementia and related disorders. His research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control, Florida Department of Health and numerous private and family foundations. Anesthesiologist and Associate Professor, NYU School of Medicine

Gharibo is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Care and Pain Medicine and Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the NYU School of Medicine. He also serves as the Medical Director of Pain Medicine at NYU Langone Hospitals Center. Gharibo completed his MD at Rutgers Medical School, anesthesiology residency at NYU Medical Center and pain medicine fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and holds subspecialty certification in pain medicine. He has acute pain experience with system-wide use of interventional techniques in combination with non-opioids and opioids as part of multimodal acute pain management pathways. His areas of clinical expertise include low back and neck pain of musculoskeletal and spinal origin, cancer pain and neuropathic pain syndromes, such as painful peripheral neuropathies and reflex sympathetic dystrophy.

Hook is board certified in psychiatry. He serves as the medical director of collaborative care and chair of the Department of Psychiatry with CentraCare health system in St. Cloud, MN. His clinical work focuses on consultative and collaborative care in the emergency room, hospital and primary and specialty care clinics. His areas of medical interest include models of collaborative and integrated care in inpatient and ambulatory settings, teaching and peripartum mental health. He also serves as program committee chair for the Minnesota Psychiatric Association.

She has a particular interest in helping patients lead healthier lives. When she is not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and kids.

Kietzmann has been a family physician in Alexandria, MN, for more than a decade. He has been waivered to prescribe Suboxone for opioid use disorder for the past year. Kietzmann co-leads the controlled substance care team at Alexandria Clinic, helping to ensure appropriate controlled substance prescribing. He completed medical school at the University of Minnesota and residency at Sioux Falls Family Medicine Residency in SD.

She completed a fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine at Mayo Clinic and is board-certified in both family medicine and hospice and palliative medicine. She is passionate about decreasing suffering for those dealing with a serious illness. She finds complex pain management especially rewarding.

Schultz is a lifelong Gopher and University of Minnesota alumnus. She completed her undergraduate degree, medical school and residency at the University of Minnesota and now has recently joined the faculty. Schultz, a graduate of the combined internal medicine-dermatology residency program, enjoys complex medical dermatology care, particularly autoimmune blistering disorders. In her free time, she enjoys hiking and biking with her husband, Jeff.

Unwin is a board-certified family physician with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Geriatric Medicine. He currently serves as medical director of Franklin Health and Rehabilitation and section chief of geriatrics and palliative medicine at Carilion Clinic in Virginia. Unwin also holds an academic appointment at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. He has received numerous awards from the Uniformed Services Academy of Family Physicians, along with other state and national organizations like the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
