Former MAFP President Honored by MMA and Named MMA President-Elect

George Schoephoerster, MD, a St. Cloud geriatrician and former president of the MAFP, received the Minnesota Medical Association’s Community Service Award at the MMA Annual Conference, September 23 and 24 in St. Louis Park.

The Community Service Award recognizes civic-minded individuals who demonstrate tremendous altruism in their personal life.

Schoephoerster was honored for his volunteer work with Alzheimer’s disease. He has been a long-time volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association of Minnesota and North Dakota, volunteering and advocating for support for those with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.

In addition, Schoephoerster was elected as the MMA’s president-elect. In this role, he will sit on the association’s Board of Trustees and will take the position of president in September 2017.
