The geographic maldistribution of U.S. physicians has been studied and well-known for many years; yet Minnesota has no comprehensive health care workforce plan to address the needs and fill the gaps. This session brings together family physicians advocating for the need to address this critical workforce shortage and the Minnesota Department of Health Office of Rural Health and Primary Care for an engaging discussion on health equity, access to care and the impact of structural racism. We’ll dive into the current state of our primary care workforce, why Minnesota has not made significant gains in addressing the shortage facing rural health centers and what a comprehensive primary care workforce plan for Minnesota could look like.
