The Innovation & Research Forum brings together practicing family physicians, researchers, innovators, medical students and residents to:
  • Dig into the latest in family medicine innovations and research and see how the findings can translate into clinical practice and improve patient care.
  • Share research and innovation projects and receive valuable feedback from peers.

Project Guidelines

Submission categories:

  • Innovation in family medicine and original research
  • Community and participatory projects, descriptive studies, quality improvement initiatives
  • Clinical case studies and literature reviews with unique conclusions

Projects that address health equity, health care disparities and antiracism are encouraged.

Someone must be available to present the project (virtually or in person) on March 16, 2024.

Who should submit?
Physicians, residents, medical students, researchers, psychologists and other innovators in family medicine who are studying, teaching and/or practicing in Minnesota.

Do the projects need to be complete?
Yes. On March 16, 2024, you should be ready to talk about the final data or outcomes of your project.

Presentation Format

Present your project (virtually or in person) in one of two ways:

  • PowerPoint presentation – Each presenter has 20 minutes, including Q&A.
  • Poster – Posters can be presented live or online (on demand). There will be both a live (in person) and online poster session. When submitting, you can choose live+online or online-only.

Submission Process

When you click the “Submit Your Project” button (below), you will be asked for/about:

  • Information about the project contact / presenter
    • Name, email address and phone number
    • Role/position at school/residency program/clinic/other
  • How the project will be presented (PowerPoint or poster, live or online)
  • SHORT project title (approximately 150 characters, including spaces)
  • Answers to these questions:
    • What did you do and why was it important?
    • How did you do it?
    • What did you learn?
    • What’s next?
  • IRB approval status
  • HIPAA compliance status
  • Funding sources
  • Disclosures (ineligible company relationships and/or unlabeled or investigational uses of products/devices)

Page Time Out Notice: The submission form will time out in approximately 45 minutes. We recommend reviewing the submission requirements on the form, creating your responses in a separate document (such as Word or Google Docs) and pasting them into the form.

Registration

All presenters must register for the Forum. There is no charge for residents or students to register.

Key Dates for Presenters

  • Project submissions due: January 22, 2024
  • Notification of project acceptance: February 9, 2024
  • PowerPoint presentations & poster PDFs due: March 11, 2024
  • Innovation & Research Forum: March 16, 2024

Pricing:

  • $200 for practicing physicians and allied professionals
  • $0 for family medicine residents and medical students

Registration will remain open through March 16, 2024.

Cancellation/Refund/No-Show Policy – Cancellations must be received by office@mafp.org in writing by March 14, 2024, to receive a refund of the registration fee. No refunds will be provided for no-shows or cancellations received after that date.

One-minute presentation during the CME program, delivered in person or via video (will be scheduled to maximize audience reach)

Your message must be approved by the MAFP in advance. Focus your message on how your organization supports family medicine and family physicians, as a direct address by a representative of your organization rather than a promotional video format.

  • If being presented by a person:
    • Script (for review and approval)
    • Name and job title of the person who will present your message
  • If being presented as a video:
    • YouTube or Vimeo URL of your video (for review and approval, and to embed in our PowerPoint slides)
