2018 House of Delegates

Wednesday, April 11, 2018
Saint Paul RiverCentre

Twenty-one resolutions have been submitted for consideration at the 2018 MAFP House of Delegates. They may not be current MAFP policy and will be discussed and voted on by delegates on April 11. If you have any questions, please contact the MAFP office.

The Spring Refresher conference app is your go-to resource for House of Delegates materials, including resolutions, schedule and more. Go to the App Store or Google Play and search for “MAFP Spring Refresher.” The app is also available by laptop at MAFP.org/app. (Please note: The House of Delegates is a paperless meeting. It’s recommended that you download the app and desired handouts to your device(s) in advance.)

Please visit the 2018 Spring Refresher page for details about the venue.

Pre-registration is now closed, but it’s not too late to join us! Walk-ins are welcome. Simply come to the Saint Paul RiverCentre and register at the door.

What is the House of Delegates (HOD)?

The HOD convenes once a year to inform and direct the MAFP leadership and staff. Adopted resolutions from the HOD are needed to:

  • Change membership dues
  • Amend the Bylaws
  • Elect MAFP officers (view officer descriptions)
  • Review the actions of and provide guidance to the Board of Directors

This event occurs the day before the annual two-day Spring Refresher. It includes deliberation on resolutions, updates from AAFP and MAFP, and election of MAFP officers. Breakfast and lunch are provided, as well as an end-of-day reception.

Delegates

Each MAFP local chapter determines a certain number of delegates to represent the membership at HOD. Delegates come to the HOD meeting prepared to act on proposed resolutions. Contact the MAFP about becoming a delegate for your local chapter.

Resolutions

Resolutions are the way members bring forward changes and/or issues that affect the specialty. They have a specific format which you can view in an Example Resolution that was adopted at the 2016 House of Delegates. This Resolution Writing Template will also help you craft a resolution.

The submission deadline for resolutions for the 2018 House of Delegates has passed. Resolutions for the 2019 House of Delegates will be accepted beginning early 2019.

Why make the effort?

Participating in the policy making process is a powerful benefit of your membership. Resolutions not only help to guide the policy decisions of the Academy, but can also raise awareness of issues of importance to family medicine. A strong resolution may also make its way through the House of Delegates and be carried the AAFP Congress of Delegates to potentially become policy at the national level.

Authoring a resolution is also an excellent way to get involved in the Academy and enjoy the satisfaction of being a change agent for the improved health of Minnesotans and of healthcare in our state.
