MAFP House of Delegates Adopts AAFP Policy Supporting Civil Marriage for Same-Gender Couples

The House of Delegates of the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians adopted several resolutions during their annual meeting on April 17, 2013, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Among those adopted was Resolution #10 that says:

BE IT RESOLVED, That the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians join with the American Academy of Family Physicians in support of civil marriage for same-gender couples to contribute to overall health and longevity, improved family stability, and to benefit children of gay, lesbian, bixsexual, transgender families.

The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians is a professional association of approximately 3,000 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students organized to assist family physicians in providing quality medical care in Minnesota. The MAFP is the largest medical specialty organization in Minnesota and is a state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, one of the largest national medical organizations in the United States with more than 103,000 members.
