Family Physicians Name St. Louis Park Doctor 2011 Teacher of the Year

Jeremy Springer, M.D., St. Louis Park, received the 2011 Teacher of the Year Award from the Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians (MAFP).
Dr. Springer is the director of the University of Minnesota – Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program. He also practices at Park Nicollet-Creekside and is an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
The Teacher of the Year Award was first handed out in 1973. It is given to an outstanding teacher of family medicine in either an academic or practice setting. Candidates are nominated by students and colleagues. Nominators are asked to describe the candidate’s special teaching qualities and his or her impact on students and/or residents.
Those who nominated Dr. Springer describe him as knowledgeable, enthusiastic and dedicated. They say he instills comfort and ease, allowing students to learn and succeed in a positive environment.
In one letter, a nominator wrote "Dr. Springer’s mission is evident: to graduate highly competent, well-rounded, sincere family physicians who also have a passion to teach.” Another wrote, "His depth of knowledge and passion for medicine is as inspiring as it is helpful.”
Dr. Springer was recognized during the MAFP Spring Refresher at the Crowne Plaza Riverfront Hotel on April 14, 2011.
The Minnesota Academy of Family Physicians is a professional association of approximately 3,000 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students organized to assist family physicians in providing quality medical care in Minnesota. The MAFP is the largest medical specialty organization in Minnesota and is a state chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians, one of the largest national medical organizations in the United States with more than 103,000 members.
